UNESCO’S proclamation of the year 2009 as “Gogol’s Year” underscores the international recognition of the genius writer and playwright who in his stature and work unified two great Slav cultures and revealed this synthesis to the world
GOGOL FOR UKRAINE
Ukraine’s European choice, its position at the crossroads of mutual penetration and mutual exchange of the Western and Eastern cultures call for Ukraine’s necessity to preserve and develop its own identity. Gogol’s stature as the first European artist who revealed Ukrainian uniqueness to the world will become the artistic code of national identification of Ukraine in the European space
GOGOL FOR KYIV
The Festival in Kyiv as Gogol’s idea that this city is a natural platform for simultaneous coexistence of Western and Eastern Ukraine, Europe and Russia, various styles and forms of space
“GOGOLFEST” 2008 GOALS
- Creation of a high quality art product worthy of presenting Ukrainian art and forming a favorable image of Ukraine to the world
- Formation an organizational platform for an annual international festival of contemporary art, capable of becoming Ukraine’s image which would be recognized in the world like the Avignon Festival in France, Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Wiener Festwochen in Austria or the Chekhov Festival in Russia.
- Approval of the cultural art space by conducting the festival as “the world’s window into Ukraine and Ukraine’s window to the world”
